The Alberta Court Interpreters Association (ACIA) as mandated by its Society Bylaws, held its Annual General Meeting in Calgary, Alberta on Saturday, May 2, 2015.
This activity took place at the Holiday Inn Express in Banff Trail, northwest of the city.
As per protocol, a quorum Was established and the AGM proceeded.
Reports were presented, activities of the year were mentioned, future issues and the election of the new Board Members took place.
As a special memento, a diploma was presented to ACIA mem
bers to commemorate the 10th anniversary of ACIA’s formal creation and registration.
Prior to the AGM and lunch, ACIA was honoured to have as a guest speaker Adriano Iovinelli,a partner at Foster Iovinelli Beyak, and a renowned barrister and solicitor specializing in Criminal Law.Attorney Iovinelli was named Queen’s Counsel (Q.C.) in 2014.

at the Executive Hotels & Resorts in Calgary, Alberta.
The topics discussed were important and reflected the activities of the year and special resolutions.
In the morning and prior to the AGM, the speaker of the day was Mrs. Kerri Firza, from the Calgary
Police Diversity Resources Unit, providing an overview of the work that the CPS is doing on
streamlining the use of interpreters through possible Certification from Bow Valley College and the use
of a new data base to request interpretation services.
